Hard for me to review The Hunger Games fairly as I don't normally read YA books and I tend to apply the same expectations to these that I have for fully adult books. See, in term of quality a YA can be of the same standard or higher than an adult book, but IMO the expectations of the adult reader ought to be different because YA books should not be sexually explicit, violent or overly complicated. I have a feeling that I would like this book a lot more if it was more tragic, one of the two main characters dying to save the other would be more poignant. I suspect the author is constrained from going that route by her target audience. As it is I like The Hunger Games well enough but not with much enthusiasm. I am not sure whether I will read the sequels at this point.
I would not hesitate to recommend this book to a young adult if I knew any!
