Not the easiest of books to review by itself. There is a lot to like in this book, the elegant and literate prose, the characters and settings, not to mention the unpredictable story. On the other hand there are some passages and dream sequences which go off on a tangent and are a little to follow. Any way, the pros certainly outweigh the cons and I suspect that when I have finished The Claw of the Conciliator most of the details from this book will fall into place.
I will review this book together with The Claw of the Conciliator in the omnibus volume Shadow and Claw: The First Half of 'The Book of the New Sun. Hopefully that will make the review more cohesive and readable.
